11 October 2017 • Mike Nuttall

Croftons fields an ‘adaptive’ and ‘knowledgeable’ team whose specialist social housing advice ‘instils confidence in clients’ – this was verdict of Legal 500 researchers, who judged Croftons to be one of the very best law firms working in the social housing sector in their latest directory, published this week.

Following research involving extensive client interviews, Legal 500 ranked Croftons in tier 1 - the highest accolade - along with just three other organisations, consolidating our position as one of the very best firms in the North West that specialise in providing legal services to the housing sector.

Wide ranging expertise

The directory also recommended seven of Croftons’ expert lawyers working in the sector. Quoting feedback from our clients, Legal 500 said:

“Croftons fields an ‘adaptive’ and ‘knowledgeable’ team whose specialist social housing advice ‘instils confidence in the client’. Its wide-ranging expertise spans housing and leasehold management, property and development issues, commercial real estate matters, and procurement, employment, governance and regulatory advice.

“Managing partner Simon Leighton heads the team, which includes Jo Savage, who is ‘really engaging and knowledgeable’ and heads the governance and regulation team; head of housing management Melanie Dirom, who is noted for her ‘flexible approach’; property team head Arthur Chapman, who is ‘very considered and reassuring’; Julie Loggenberg, who handles development site acquisitions and regeneration schemes; and Bob Agnew. Clients also single out senior associate Kirsty Varley, who is experienced in anti-social behaviour.”

Advising on a ‘flagship developments’

The directory also highlighted some of Croftons’ key projects from the last 12 months: “Highlights included acting for Salix Homes in a nuisance case against a vexatious complainant; representing Sovini Group in a matter involving injunction proceedings against a tenant displaying anti-social behaviour; advising Trafford Housing Trust on a site acquisition for a flagship development of 94 homes; and assisting The Regenda Group with a complex land purchase for a flagship £21m development that will form part of the high-profile Liverpool Waters regeneration scheme.”

Star individuals

Croftons’ Partner Arthur Chapman (pictured below) also retained his position as a ‘Leading Individual’ – one of just five senior lawyers in the region deemed to be the best of the best, and our Associate Solicitor, Kirsty Varley, was included in the ‘Next Generation Lawyers’ – a list of raising stars in the profession.
