The Legal 500 - The Clients Guide to Law Firms

Croftons’ “friendly, responsive and proactive” team has cemented its position as a leading provider of legal services to the housing sector after we retained our Band 1 ranking in both the Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners legal directories, both published last week.

The rankings are based on thorough independent research, centred on extensive interviews with our housing clients, through which the very best law firms across the UK are ranked based on their expertise, experience, service quality and client care.

‘Stellar reputation’

The legal directories also highlight the best lawyers working in their sector, and Croftons’ Partner, Arthur Chapman, was named as a ‘Star Individual’ in Chambers and a ‘Leading Individual’ in Legal 500 – one of just two lawyers to receive these highest accolades for legal work in the North West social housing sector.

Chambers said, “Arthur Chapman has a stellar reputation for his expertise in the social housing sector, with clients calling upon his market-leading strengths in land acquisitions and sales, lease agreements and funding arrangements. Clients describe him as "thoroughly knowledgeable and commercially focused."”

‘Helpful and responsive’

Melanie Dirom was ranked in Band 2 of the Chambers directory, positioning her as one of the leading housing and leasehold management specialists working in the sector. Chambers said, “Melanie Dirom has extensive experience advising social landlords on a range of housing litigation and tenancy issues, with considerable strengths in anti-social behaviour cases and leasehold management. Clients describe her as "always helpful and responsive."”

Chambers also named Jo Loake, our Head of Governance and Regulation, as a ‘Recognised Practitioners’ and in Legal 500, our Senior Associate, Kirsty Varley was recognised as a ‘Next Generation Lawyer’

What Legal 500 said

In its review of Croftons, Legal 500 said: “The ‘quality’ team at specialist housing and regeneration firm Croftons is active across governance and regulation, development, housing and leasehold management, employment and procurement. Head of governance and regulation Jo Loake has a ‘breadth of knowledge on governance and regulatory issues’, the ‘experienced and responsive’ Julie Loggenberg handles property and development matters, and Melanie Dirom leads the ‘excellent’ housing management team.”

What Chambers & Partners said

Chambers said: "Croftons’ team is well-known for offering the full range of development and housing management matters, alongside expertise in regulatory and governance issues. They work with a number of notable regional housing associations on anti-social behaviour cases and other complex housing matters. Clients describe the team as "friendly, responsive and proactive,” and “They are helpful and they give practical and accurate advice."”
