Runners raise over £1400 for homeless

1 April 2019 • Mike Nuttall

A team of novice long-distance runners from Croftons has completed the Wilmslow Half Marathon, and in the process raised £1428 to help Manchester’s most destitute and vulnerable rough sleepers.

Our team was running in aid of the Cornserstone Safe Haven Project in south Manchester, which offers a roof and a bed for 24 homeless people, alongside access to basic services such as a shower, laundry, breakfast, evening meals and access to support from other agencies.

After braving a cold, winter training programme, our team of runners enjoyed blue skies and perfect running conditions last Sunday (24 March), with all seven colleagues completing the 13.1 mile course around the leafy lanes of Wilmslow and Mobberley.

A devastating rise in homelessness has led to more than 500 people sleeping rough on the streets of Greater Manchester every night. Many local charities do wonderful things to help alleviate the most acute impacts of this crisis - but they need support to be able to continue providing these services.

Our Just Giving page is still open, if you would like to donate click here.
